'Scuba Diving Thoughts on Narrow Roads'

Super narrow local roads are something to generally avoid regarding safety and time spent in cleaning the motorcycle later on but if we're talking about the spirit of adventure and exploration, they almost cannot be matched. True, most of them end up abruptly or become too narrow to ride, sometimes hardly leaving space for turning the bike around properly.

It didn't happen just once to me to find myself in the mud. Holding 600 pounds of metal while realizing that the rear wheel just turns and turns without any friction, can be quite a nerve-wrecking experience, believe me. In those moments it best to use the old diving SBT technique when in trouble somewhere deep underwater: "Stop, breathe, think!" An interdisciplinary piece of wisdom, one could say. :D

I was quite an avid scuba diver (and freediver) with a serious number of dives in various conditions. I still hold all my 8-10 certificate cards and occasionally dive in summers. I've seen too many people get in serious trouble, some of them my friends and some that I've just met. Some were in hospitals, some ended in wheelchairs and some are dead. It makes you stop believing in all those commercial stories about how diving is all super honky-dory, 'let's have fun and see some turtles, dolphins and sunken ships' thing. It is quite dangerous, difficult, time and money consuming activity if you want to do it properly and with intermediate risk.

This is an example of how narrow roads often end, turning into a path that one cannot ride if the ground is soft. Unfortunately, this appears to be the way to the old fortress on top of the hill. I guess that's also out for today. I wonder why a road was never built? It could be a tourist attraction.

There is still fresh air and a stretch of road ahead of me. Why dwell on anything that wasn't meant to be, when there are so many things ahead of us? I always keep in mind that the pleasure is not to be derived from what might have happened or what might happen sometime in the future but only from what is happening right now. And that would be parking the bike and inspecting these beehives up close... :-)

Enjoy your day! :-)
