Tsukiji Area

Tsukiji Fish market is a world famous location in Tokyo, However I was not able to enter it at this time. But the surrounding area is also super interesting. There are also many shops selling fresh fish as well as meat, fruit and veg. of course people come here specifically for Sushi and Sashimi.

There's a lot of street food around and you get taste a lot different fresh dishes, cooked right in front of you, you can choose to eat there or take it away. Every corner has a different restaurant and its great.

Around the market there are these vehicles, that look quite old. They drive these around moving goods and delivering them to trucks and vendors.

If you want to hone your own sashimi cutting skills you can buy your self a very expensive and unique set of knives, I believe the bigger ones are for cutting huge fish and maybe whales. Some of these knives are hand made masterpieces only available in these shops.

There are many interesting things lying around such old style bicycles and interesting advertisements.

One of the most famous items to get at Tsukiji is tuna, the whole market economics heavily revolve around selling freshly caught tuna. The most expensive tuna ever caught weighed 222 kilograms and sold for 1.8 million dollars. Tuna is big here and very delicious, none of that canned filth.

So if you have time to explore the area it is very much worth the experience, The actual fish market is closed sometimes and open to foreigners after the fish auctions. Foreigners used to be allowed during the auctions, many of them would touch the fish lowering the value or making them worthless. So don't touch anything. So get going before the relocate.
