This post is part of a series following my friends and I crossing Sri Lanka in a Tuktuk. You can find the intro post here.

Ridiculously bad french outfit : check.
Plastic chicken: check.
The Adventurist organized for us a benediction by a local monk and a Sri Lankan fanfare, and off we went with the other 40 teams!

Somehow we got all the backpacks on the back of the tuktuk and still got enough room for a 'comfortable' ride.

Today was our longest driving day if we stick to the plan, a 160km drive from Negombo to Sigiriya. It doesn't seem like much but keep in mind that the thing is on the verge of breaking down when we go faster than 40 kmh and that our tuktuk seem to be missing the third gear (I might have stalled once or twice :p)

We had a delicious buffet lunch on the side of the road. The owner was super kind and we stayed a bit longer to chat with her. After that, we kept driving until we reached Sigiriya, 6 hours after the start. We originally planned to do some sightseeing in the afternoon but it started to rain heavily. So we decided to keep the Hike to Sigiriya rock (UNESCO world heritage) for tomorrow morning.

Enjoying a few cold beers, some nice curry and the swimming pool in the meantime!

PS: just found the HiveFest Bangkok gif from the tuktuk crew :D
