Gamcheon Culture Village, South Korea

Having just travelled from China to Japan over land and sea, I thought I would share some of the more memorable places seen on the journey. These pictures are from the stunning Gamcheon Culture Village in Busan, South Korea.

The village, which was created to house refugees fleeing the Korean war, was rejuvenated in 2009 with many locals contributing artworks as well as painting their houses.

Gamcheon resembles the favelas of South America with the houses built in step formation into the hillside. Gamcheon has also earned the nickname "Machu Pichu of the East".

Many of the steps that wind through the village have been painted to resemble books.

The village attracts many visitors and as Gamcheon is included in school textbooks as an example of successful urban redevelopment, many schoolchildren visit the site looking for the perfect selfie!

You can read more about Gamcheon and see a video tour of the village on my website which also includes details of my visit to the reclusive North Korea!

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed my pictures!
