Travel] Trip to Chaeseokang in the Southern Part of South Korea

Day trip to see the snowy landscape in the southern part of Korea

Me and my friends went to Chaeseokang and Naesosa Temple. Chaeseokang is located in Jeollabuk-do West Coast National Park.

Chaeseokang is the place where stratum of the Cretaceous period and located in the west of Byeongsan Peninsula in the southern part of Korea. The place is beautifully surrounded by sea and beach. The cliffs that have been eroded by sea water; thus, they look like a pile of thousands of books stacked up.

'Chaeseokang' was named after a river in China. There is a story that has been passed on from mouth to mouth, describing how beautiful the river is. Lee Tae-baek, a famous poet in Chinese Tang dynasty, died while trying to catch a moon reflected in Chaeseokang.

I was not able to see Chaeseokang properly because when I arrived there, the sea was at high tide; however, I could see beautiful scenery with snow and white waves piled up in sedimentary rocks.

When you plan to go on a trip to Chaeseokang, you'd better check the tide time. You can search for Byeongsan Peninsula(변산반도) tide time at this site: http://www.badatime.com/237.html

After I checked out Chaeseokang, I headed to Dalgibong. Dalgibong is the peak of the mountain right next to Chaeseokang.

On the way to Dalgibong, there was snow-covered stones and trees. The climate in the mountain kept changing rapidly. Sometimes there was clear sky ahead, but sometimes it became cloudy and snowy, creating very mysterious atmosphere.

At the top of Dalgibong, there is an observatory. As soon as the owner of the observatory called out Masil, a name of the road to Dalgibong, a flock of birds gathered around to get bird seed on his hand. We also had a chance to feed birds. After that, we went down the mountain to eat lunch at Gunsan restaurant.

Then, we headed to Naesosa Temple. The wind was so cold. Make sure you get warm clothes, hats, gloves, masks, shoes, and etc.

I will post about Naesosa Temple soon.
