Bibi ka maqbara is located in the Aurangabad, historic city of Maharashtra,India. It is called Taj of the Deccan due to its striking resemblence to Taj Mahal in Agra.Even though people say it is just a mini version of Taj Mahal or not even close to the magestic Taj Mahal I found it quite splendid and admired the mughal architecture very much.Especially with the mountains as backdrop.
Now a little history~It is believed that this beautiful mausoleum was commisioned by Prince Azam Shah, son of Aurangazeb in fond memory of his mother Dilras Banu Begum. It is a little conflicting subject whether it was Azam Shah or Aurangazeb himself who built the tomb. And the designer Ata-Ullah is the son of Ustad Ahmad Lahauri who is the architect behind the famous Taj Mahal. There is also a saying that it was built inorder to be a rival to the grand Taj Mahal.Uhh soo much controversies!!!
Similar to Taj Mahal this one is also made from marble. You have to take off your footwear while entering inside.Felt good walking bare feet on those cool marble floors compared to the scorching March heat outside.
Built on a platform, surrounded by four minarets. There is a garden and lawn in the front. There is also an active mosque on the west side.
Seems like some serious photoshoot goin in here😉
Intricate jally work made from marble.
Seems like this is what I saw through the jally.
The mortal remains of the queen is placed below ground level enclosed in an octogonal stairwell. If we look down we can see the tomb.
Seems like those coins and currencies where added as offerings by the people who came to visit.
Sadly there was no guide to explain things to us.I had to do a little research to find all these things.
But couldn't find why money was thrown like this.Even did an image search but no luck!!
Photobomber squirrel wandering freely unaware of any of those historic controversies.
A marble bench in the front to take that perfect photo with the monument as backdrop.
Thats it.So what do you think??Is it close enough to Taj Mahal.I am yet to visit the Taj.So much lured away by its replica, would really love to visit the original some day.Well Taj has its own set of controversies with the sealed basements which was never opened to the public eye, whether it was actually a Hindu temple etc etc.
