Normandy - June 6, 1944

June 6, 1944...Today it's been 74 years ago since Western allies started operation Overlord during World War II. That day will always be remembered in history as D-Day. The fought for liberation of the Nazi regime had started on the coastline of Normandy.

A few weeks ago, when in Normandy... I finally had the chance to pay tribute to those who offered their lives for our freedom.

First we paid a visit to Pointe du Hoc, one of the main targets of the Western allies.
Pointe du Hoc was the highest point between Utah Beach to the west and Omaha Beach to the east. The German army fortified the area with concrete casemates and gun pits. The United States Army Ranger Assault Group assaulted and captured Pointe du Hoc after scaling the cliffs.

Later on, we went to the Normandy American cemetery and memorial. This place makes you very humble, as once you arrive, you stand in front of thousands of War heroes. The place was quite and peaceful, and I do hope it can sustain like that for many more years and even centuries to come.
