Estimados amigos!
Quería dedicar este post a uno de los conjuntos monumentales que más me ha impresionado y que, la verdad, encontré por casualidad. De camino a Valencia, vimos la indicación de desvió a Alarcón (provincia de Cuenca), y como nos sonaba que había un castillo decidimos dedicarle un rato y visitarlo.
La carretera desde la autopista A3 hasta el pueblo es bastante inhóspita, uno no esperaría que en medio de “la nada” va a encontrar un lugar tan sobrecogedor. Pero así es Castilla, en medio del páramo hay una fortaleza.
Se trata de una fortaleza situada en un alto sobre un meandro del río Júcar. El lugar fue utilizado por íberos, romanos y godos (la leyenda cuenta que el nombre de Alarcón deriva del Rey godo Alarico, que conquistó la plaza a los romanos); aunque fueron los árabes los que impulsaron su fortificación, que fue completada posteriormente durante la Reconquista, con distintos fuertes y bastiones que formarían un impresionante conjunto defensivo.
No parece extraño que este lugar haya sido un enclave militar y defensivo durante los dos últimos milenios, ya que su situación lo hace prácticamente inexpugnable. En parte, me recuerda a la situación de Toledo.
Desde 1966 el Castillo acoge a un Parador Nacional, por lo que no es posible la visita al mismo. Al menos nosotros no pudimos visitarlo.
El resto de la Villa merece la pena, ya que conserva el sabor medieval, por lo que nos resultó una visita muy recomendable.
Solo un consejo más, las mejores fotos se echan desde el baluarte que hay a la entrada del pueblo. Desde ese lugar la instantánea es genial. Fue una pena no poder echar una foto panorámica.

I wanted to dedicate this post to one of the monumental sets that more impressed and that, truthfully, I found by chance. On the way to Valencia, we saw the indication of detour to Alarcón (province of Cuenca), and as it sounded to us that there was a castle we decided to spend some time and visit it.
The road from A3 motorway to the village is quite inhospitable, one would not expect that in the middle of "nowhere" you will find such an overwhelming place. But so is Castilla, in the middle of the plain there is a fortress.
It is a fortress located on a high above a meander of the river Júcar. The place was used by Romans and Goths (the legend tells that the name of Alarcón derives from the Gothic king Alarico, that conquered the place to the Romans). In any case, it was the Arabs who pushed their fortification, which was later completed during the Reconquest, with different forts and bastions that would form an impressive defensive set.
It does not seem strange that this place has been a military and defensive enclave during the last two millennia, since its situation makes it practically impregnable. In part, it reminds me of the Toledo situation.
Since 1966 the Castle has hosted a National Parador, so it is not possible to visit it. At least we could not visit him.The rest of the Villa is worth it as it retains the medieval flavor, so it was a highly recommended visit.
