If you visit Italy, I am sure you will not miss visiting Pisa and taking a look at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It is like a must do for every tourist to Italy. These are some magnificent structures built in the ancient times. The History of Pisa goes like this, the Tower construction had begun in the year 1100, after building some 3 stories, the builders realized that the tower had started leaning due to a dense mixture of clay and sand used. After that a war broke out and then the work was stopped and the building started collapsing further. Then almost 100 years later the work started, corrections were made again but as the structure kept getting higher the weight of it made the building tilt further.
In 1990 there was restoration work carried out and the Tower was closed to the public for a long time. Now the Tower is stable and the tilting has stopped. For the next few centuries probably the Tower will be stable but down the lane there is no guarantee. But I am sure years later technology will do it's work and make this ancient structure stand as is.
The place is truly a beauty. Along with the Tower there is the Pisa Cathedral also. We had some few hours in the place, it was sufficient. The only regret I have is that I could not go up to the top of the tower. There was already a long queue and the next available ticket was late in the evening and we had to leave before that.
As we were walking near to it I was feeling so happy that my wish for visiting this place has finally come true.
