A place which looks like a wonderland. Zermatt is a mountain resort and very famous for mountain adventures like skiing and hiking. It's located at the foot of the famous Mount Matterhorn which is one of the highest summits in the Alps and Europe. We had a 3 days stay in this small town and I had booked a Chalet, which was again one of my wish to stay in a chalet once. I had also shared a post on it sometime back. Chalet stay is nothing very great or something very different, it's just the feel and the vibe.
Zermatt is close to the Italy border and it is faster to reach Milan from Zermatt then reaching Zurich from Zermatt. As such I found this place very expensive right from accommodation to food and shopping all of it looked like a premium price to me. I found an Indian restaurant there and was tempted to have an Indian meal one of the evenings, but then looking at the price of the dishes I did not feel like having it. It was exorbitantly priced, almost 5 to 6 times more then what I would pay normally. I would be ok to pay 2 to 3 times more but this was a total ripper.
Even the hotels and chalet stays are expensive, I managed to find a decent chalet, which I did pay a high price but it was still affordable and it was a neat place. Some of the premium hotels had crazy charges. Anyways my focus was not on stay or food. I wanted to see the place. Dinners we had at some of the local joints and lunch we would pick up something from Migros so that went well for the 3 days we were there. Shopping was not on my list anyways so it never bothered me. We did pick up some Laderach chocolates and since then I have become a fan of these chocolates.
Sharing some pictures of the place during my stay.
One of the expensive hotels
Such a lovely scene
I am mesmerized by the beauty of this place.
That's a Taxi, quite expensive again. The most economical way to move around is by bus which is included in the Swiss pass if you have it. We took the Taxi one time when we had to leave from our Chalet for station, we had luggage so hubby preferred to take the cab and it was only a 5 minute drive to the station for which he charged us 30$.
These are some pictures taken during the train travel from Zermatt to Bern
Like all other tourist places, this was also crowded, but I always wanted to visit this place so there was no chance that I would miss it for anything and it was all worth it.
