Agra Fort, India - UNESCO World Heritage site

If you’re heading to Agra, this attraction should be on top of your list of places to see!

Agra fort is one of the many historical sites to visit in India.

Listed as a UNESCO World heritage site, it was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638 when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi.

It was originally built as a military fort by the first Mughal emperor in India, Akbar, on the banks of the Yamuna river but was later transformed into a palace.

The crescent-shaped fort’s colossal double walls rise over 20m in height and measure 2.5km in circumference. It contains a maze of buildings forming a city within a city, including vast underground sections.

It is an incredible piece of architecture history showing fine details within the fort, carved into marbles and stones.

Several of the buildings are made from pure marbles with beautiful carvings depicting Indo-Muslim art.
