Americas Favorite Drive

This info is from the National Park Service website.....
"A Blue Ridge Parkway experience is unlike any other: a slow-paced and relaxing drive revealing stunning long-range vistas and close-up views of the rugged mountains and pastoral landscapes of the Appalachian Highlands. The Parkway meanders for 469 miles, protecting a diversity of plants and animals, and providing opportunities for enjoying all that makes this region of the country so special."

It's really a 469 mile long skinny strip of National Park that you explore at a maximum speed limit of 45 mph.
The views and vistas are incredible.

I've driven it all, or various sections of it many times over the years, as the curvey, twisty roads in the Appalachian mountains were Jim's favorite roadtrip vacation destination. My favorite time of year to be there is in May or June when the Mountain Laurel, azaleas, and Catawba rhododendron are in bloom.
