Acapulco Sunrise: Just Before the Journey and a Silkie Update

These photos were taken by John as we got ready to head to Mexico City after some Silkie chickens. We made it back after nothing short of a fiasco with them but the shitshow hasn't ended. Some time while we were gone the wet season came and the combination of the move and that wasn't good on our already weakened silkie flock.

They came with sneezes and those got worse. At this point we've lost 4 out of 6 of our new flock.

They've essentially got respiratory infections and need antibiotics if natural things like VetRx and garlic don't help their situation. Today we finally got some antibiotics and the two left are drinking it and perking up, giving me hope. Still, two out of six seriously sucks.

In my searching today I found that silkies are similar to specialized dog breeds in that they've got a set of issues they're prone to due to their breed, like mites and such. Our oldest silkie has been struggling with mites, not getting much worse but not getting much better either.

It's not all about getting the birds home and I think the saying "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" somewhat applies here even to live birds, because they don't always stay live especially if there's a stressful situation like their journey to Acapulco.
