Have you ever heard of 2000 female Acehnese soldiers, valiantly fighting the invaders. They are not ordinary women, they are widows of the soldier whose die against the enemy. Even their struggle to the Strait of Malacca and Malaya. These warriors are named Inong Balee.

Pernahkan mendengar ada 2000 prajurit perempuan Aceh, dengan gagah berani melawan penjajah. Mereka bukan perempuan biasa, mereka adalah janda-janda para pejuang yang mati syahid melawan penjajah, bahkan perjuangan mereka sampai ke selat Malaka dan Malaya. Prajurit-prajurit ini bernama Inong Balee.

Once Upon A Time - Alkisah

In the past, when the kingdom of Aceh was led by the sultan of the 10th Sultanate of Aceh (ruling 1596 / 1589-1604): Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah Sayyid Al Mukammil, there was a fierce battle between Aceh with the Portuguese in the Haru Sea. In the battle won by the kingdom of Aceh, but in the battle a lot of fallen soldiers, including 2 admirals of Aceh.

Dahulu, saat kerajaan Aceh dipimpin oleh sultan Kesultanan Aceh yang ke 10 (Berkuasa 1596/1589–1604) : Sultan Alauddin Riayat Syah Sayyid Al Mukammil, terjadi pertempuran sengit antara Kerjaan Aceh dengan Portugis di Laut Haru. Dalam pertempuran dimenangkan oleh kerajaan Aceh, tetapi dalam pertempuran tersebut banyak prajurit yang gugur, termasuk 2 orang laksamana Aceh.

Adalah Keumalahayati, janda salah seorang Laksamana yang gugur tersebut, meneruskan perjuangan suaminya melawan penjajah. Hingga ia menjadi Laksamana perempuan pertama di dunia. Atas persetujuan sultan, dialah yang membentuk armada perang yang anggota awalnya adalah 1000 orang janda yang suaminya gugur dalam peperangan di Laut Haru.

Admiral Malahayati led the force until its members reached 2000 people. They are Private Inong Balee. A Malahayati is with a rencong managed to pierce the stomach of Dutch General Cornelis De Houtman on the deck of the ship in a one-on-one battle. Admiral Malahayati became one of Indonesia's National Heroes.

Laksamana Malahayati memimpin pasukan tersebut hingga anggotanya mencapai 2000 orang. Mereka adalah Prajurit Inong Balee. Seorang Malahayati lah dengan sebilah rencong nya berhasil menusuk perut Jendral Belanda Cornelis De Houtman di atas geladak kapal dalam pertarungan satu lawan satu. Laksamana Malahayati menjadi salah satu Pahlawan Nasional Indonesia.

Inong Balee Fortress - Benteng Inong Balee

The national hero of Malahayati, already familiar to me. Her name was known for being used as a street name and university name. The story about Inong Balee I just know. The story make me interested to see traces of soldiers Inong Belee in a hilly area in the village of Lamreh, Aceh Besar, the Inong Balee Fort.

Armed with an almost imperceptible name plank, we dive into a rocky and steep path. Not so long, we arrived to a fortress site, right facing the strait of Malacca. A stone fort with several reconnaissance holes and guns. For a moment i. Felt the spirit of struggle. Imagine how it used to be a territory of defense and invasion of the invaders by women war widow troops. My mind was too far away.

Pahlawan nasional Malahayati, sudah akrab di telingaku. Nama beliaupun kukenal karena dipakai sebagai nama jalan dan nama universitas. Jujur kisah tentang Inong Balee baru ku tahu. Hal inilah yang membawa ku tertarik untuk melihat jejak perjuangan prajurit Inong Belee di sebuah kawasan perbukitan di Desa Lamreh, Aceh Besar, yaitu Benteng Inong Balee.

Dengan berbekal plang nama yang nyaris tak terlihat, kami berlahan memasuki jalan berbatu dan curam. Tak begitu lama, sampailah kami ke sebuah situs benteng pertahanan, tepat menghadap selat Malaka. Benteng batu dengan beberapa lubang pengintaian dan senjata meriam. Sejenak aura semangat perjuangan begitu terasa. Membayangkan bagaimana dulu kawasan ini menjadi daerah pertahan dan penyerangan ke penjajah oleh pasukan perempuan janda perang. Pikiranku pun jauh menerawang.

Inong Balee Beach - Pantai Inong Balee

Coconut trees give friendly greeting. The winds make my soul so calm. In front of castle we walked towards the beach. This beach was named Inong Balee Beach. The beach is many rocky and very beautiful view. This beach is not clean, probably because the beach is free and there are no guards, so it looks a lot of garbage around the beach. I walked down the beach. In the past, of course the beach is crowded by Inong Balee warriors. They are persistent and brave, they will not allowed the invaders come to this land.

The waves roared gently, accompanying my journey leaving this beach. The sense of nationalism thicken, remembering freedom to this nation. Because of their struggle, so I am here, enjoying what they have striven for.

Nyiur melambai menyapa dengan ramah. Terpaan angin yang kencang begitu menyejukkan jiwa. Didepan benteng tersebut kami berjalan ke arah pantai. Pantai ini pun di beri nama Pantai Inong Balee. Pantai berbatu dengan pemandangan yang sangat cantik. Kawasan pantai ini tampak nya kurang terawat, mungkin karena pantai bebas dan tak ada penjaga, sehingga tampak banyak sampah disekitar pantai.
Dulu, tentu pantai ini ramai oleh prajurit Inong Balee. Mereka gigih dan pemberani. Mereka tak akan dibiarkan penjajah menginjakkan kaki ke tanah ini.
Ombak berderu dengan lembut, mengiringi perjalan ku meninggalkan pantai ini. Rasa nasionalisme menebal, mengenang jasa mereka terhadap bangsa ini. Karena merekalah sekarang aku berada disini, menikmati apa yang telah mereka perjuangkan.
