Where Michael Jackson danced in colorful Salvador

I landed in Salvador Airport and been picked up by Fiapo, which brought me to the surfcamp i stayed for ten days. After half an hour i arrived in the camp. Had a typical brazilian lunch: rice and beans. Totally satisfied i joined a group of people i just met in the camp, we shared a cab to explore the city of Salvador.

Salvador's suburb

On our way we passed the suburbs of Salvador which are called "Favelas" in Portuguese (means: poor neighborhood). Living in a first world country this opens your eyes, not everything is a birthday party. Somehow the housing is fascinating. It's interesting how the raw materials are stacked on each other and the architecture is built in a spontaneous and heterogeneous way.

Arrived in the center of Salvador

The taxi driver dropped us right in front of the townhall close to the city center. Nearby is the famous “Elevador Lacerda”. It’s a lift which connects the upper old town with the lower port area.

We let the day end right in front of Salvadors lighthouse. Sat there and watched the sun set and some ambitious surfers take the last waves rolling in.
