West Bengal was formed after the division of India in 1947. The eastern part of Bengal became a new country East Pakistan and Bangladesh in later and western part became West Bengal , a state in the eastern region of India . West Bengal is the nations fourth and seventh most populous sub-national entity in the world with more than 91 million inhabitants. The capital Kolkata formerly known as Calcutta was the capital of the country during the British Rule (1700-1912 AD) . The Hill stations, National Parks , Wild Animals and many historical places are the major attractions of West Bengal. In the article I'm going to write some of the interesting places which you must visit if you travel West Bengal.

GORUMARA NATIONAL PARK : It's located in the northern part of West Bengal, in the Dooars region of the Himalayan Foothills. Gorumara is a medium sized National Park with grasslands and forests and mostly known for its population of Indian rhinoceros.

JALDAPARA NATIONAL PARK : This park is situated very close to Gorumara National Park, at the Foothills of Himalayas on the bank of Torsa river. It has the largest population of Indian one horned rhinoceros. The nearby Chilapata forest is an elephant corridor between Jaldapara and Buxa Tiger Reserve.

DOOARS : Dooars means doors, the lowest portion of Himalayas in the north-east part of India . Specially forests, small hills , zik-zak and up-down roads are the main attractions of Dooars. This's one of the best places for bikers .

Darjeeling : It's often known as the second Kashmir for its beautiful pleasant climate, every year lakes of national-international come to visit it. It's located in the lesser Himalayas at an elevation of 6,700 ft. Darjeeling is noted for its Tea Industries, Kanchenjanga - the world's third-highest mountain, and the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, an UNESCO world heritage site.

COOCH BEHAR PALACE : A historic place in the Cooch Behar city, West Bengal. The palace was modeled after the Buckingham Palace in London in 1887, during the reign of maharaja Nripendra Narayan . The mixture of Classical Western and Italian Renaissance is noted for its elegance and grandeur. Now it's a property of ministers, but anyone can visit it.

MORGAN PALACE : Early known as Singamari Tourist Lodge or Durpin Tourist Lodge, is a Britist colonial mansion built by an English jute Baron Mr George Morgan in 1930 in Kalimpong. Now it's a hotel managed by State Government. Many famous bollywood celebs like Kishore Kumer, Nargis and American ambassador in India Chester Bowles stayed here.

Mentioned all the places are located in North Bengal, and nearby Siliguri is the biggest city . In my next posts I'll further describe all the places one by one.
