Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf In Taiwan

Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf In Taiwan

Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf is one of the jewels of Northern Taiwan. This beautiful wharf is located to the North of Taipei. Now  a quite small village, it was the center of shipping and commerce for Northern Taiwan until the beginning of the 20th Century. The city is popular with Taipei tourists. It boosts many historical sites. It has amazing evenings! The weather is pleasant most of the year.  It is an extremely popular location for watching the sunset. Tamsui sunsets are some of the most beautiful sunsets in all of Taiwan.

Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf, also called Dansui Fisherman’s Wharf, is known as Danshui, Danshuei, and Tamshui. In the last several years, the government has been working to have all government trains and brochures updated to reflect the towns choice of Tamsui. There are still old brochures in circulation that reflects one of the other names. Regardless of the name, this is the perfect place for a mini vacation.

Tamsui is located near the outlet of the Tamsui (Danshui) River at the mouth of  the Taiwan Strait. Originally Tamsui was home to the Formosan indigenous peoples. Many of the indigenous people live in the area. Tamsui was next settled by the Spanish in 1629. Much of the Spanish architectural flare reflects the years of the Spanish presence. Latter,  the Spanish were replaced by the Dutch. To this day, there is both Spanish and Dutch influence in this beautiful Wharf.

The waterfront at sunset is often lined with fishermen and boating enthusiasts. Couples can be seen walking hand in hand. The wharf is the perfect place for a romantic walk.  Because Tamsui is so close to Taipei City, it is a favorite with city dwellers. They find it easy to escape city life for a few hours or even a day. In Tamsui you can rise early and have your morning coffee at the wharf. Take a short walk before work! You can relax after a hard day! Take in the sunset!  It is an excellent place to take a stroll along the water. Couples find it the perfect place to watch the sunset! They often follow the sunset with  dinner at the Wharf. Tamsui Fisherman’s Wharf is alive with Taiwan beauty! What an amazing wharf! Come join us for coffee! What a lovely way to start the day!
