A trip to the Transylvanian village of Viscri is similar to a journey back in time.
Old houses, even hundreds of years old, most of them unrenovated, but with a special charm, makes of Viscri the perfect destination if you are looking to escape the city, the noise and the technology.

Because of the isolation and also the absence of other occupations besides agriculture, the Natural Wool Socks project was initiated in Viscri by two Germans established here in the late 1990s. Initially, the women crocheted socks from old sweaters and gave them in exchange for food (sugar, oil or bread). As the pile of socks began to grow steadily, this turned into a real project involving 125 women in the village.

Viscri became known after Prince Charles bought a house here in 1996 and spoke in many interviews about the beauty of this place.
Now, Viscri welcomes more than 15,000 tourists every year.
You can spend your night in an old farmhouse restored to be a very hospitable guesthouse.
That will cost you 60RON ($15)
