Smoggy Afternoons in Shanghai
Shanghai, China
Back in 2013 I was based out of Shanghai China. It was one of the hottest summers in decades, with temperatures sticking above 38 Celsius for more that 35days straight. Making the run from my aircon apartment to the aircon subway without breaking to getting soaked in sweat was part of the daily challenge.
The smog was also at a high back then, with pollution numbers exceeding all scales. This view from my apartment shows what that looks like, on bad days the veil of smog was so dense you could hardly locate the sun!
Luckily China is tackling the problem, lead by the communities in the tech-driven Shenzhen region.
