Do you know where is the city of chocolate, come here and you will fall in love!

Hello Steemians,

Today I am writing about the most beautiful city from Belgium, Bruges. The historic center of Bruges, is included in the UNESCO Heritage, now as I am writing I realize I have a thing for cities who are part of UNESCO.

Because is a small city, you don’t need tickets for public transport, you can easily walk. The bus/train from Brussels leaves you in front of the Central Train Station, and from there you can use a map to reach city center, a walk of 15 minutes.
First time I found about this beautiful medieval city was in 2008 when Colin Farrell played the main role in the film “In Bruges” directed by Martin McDonagh.

A few years later, mom made my dream come true, bought tickets to Brussels and from there we took the bus to Bruges often referred to as The Venice of the North, even though I don't see the sense of this nickname.

We went on autumn in order to avoid the crush of tourist which visits the city on summers.

The walk should start from the Central market also known as Grote Market, it’s a must to take pictures of the colorful buildings, and you lay around at a restaurant and drink a coffee, tea or beer and enjoy the view. It’s a lovely place because there are no cars, only pedestrians, even though I saw some small buses.. In one night, after walking down the streets we stopped in the Grote Market and ate some delicious french fries.

The tower is called Belfort Tower, it's about 83 meters high and just around 360 stairs that you have to climb to the top, because there are no elevators, so you get a workout included in the visit. I was not able to visit it... unfortunately.
Walking on the small medieval streets you get to see eventually the entire city center, so you don’t need a map.

I got to see the Beer Wall by chance. Got out on the terrace and drank a beer enjoying the sun. The view is totally worth it. Belgian beers are everywhere in the city, so you don’t need to buy from there because the price is obviously bigger.

On every corner of the street you can see a little shop, a family-run business that has tasteful chocolate, Belgium is a byword for chocolate. We bought around 3 kilograms of chocolate from there, and it was better than Swiss Chocolate. If you want to eat 100% Belgian chocolate, made in Bruges, you have to look for "Hand made Chocolate" or "Home made Chocolate".

It’s so pleasant to walk along the canals, in order to enjoy the view, see the swans and the lovely architecture. We also took a boat trip which was really fun.

Bruges is a lovely city , so romantic with a good chocolate and of course tasty waffles.

As far as I see these are the attraction you must see:

  • All the chocolate shops
  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood

  • Beer wall
  • Boat trip
  • Tasting some Fries Potato
  • Onze Lieve Vrouwkerk - a church where you can see one of the few sculptures of Michelangelo, outside Italy - Madona with child

I made all the pictures with my phone, unfortunately I did not take my camera with me... :(

TIP: In my humble opinion, even if you can visit this city in one day, to enjoy at its full potential, you have to stay overnight, because on evenings/nights the atmosphere is even prettier, has something magical that throws you in the past, so we chose to stay two nights here.
