Snowdonia National Park, Wales (mountain railway)

North Wales is a stunning part of the world, Snowdonia is a huge national park but everyone heads to Snowdon, if you head out further afield, even to neighbouring peaks, you can often find yourself alone. The coastline from Anglesey down to Pembrokeshire is something to behold as well, there is a coastal path that follows the entire coast if anyone is up for a bigger walk than just a single peak.

we had planned a short weekend away to North Wales and due to the constraints of time and lack of driving, decided to take the Snowdon Mountain rail up Wales's highest peak. We luckily got some clear weather at the top and some spectacular views of the Snowdon national park. However, I quite like this image taken from the train as it showcase the trail, the hikers, a lake and an interesting mountain face.
If you live in Britain (or are visiting), I highly recommend a weekend in North Wales. Bangor is a nice base for non-drivers as it is connected by rail to Birmingham & London and has a bus connection to Llanberis (the gateway to Snowdon). The local Penhryn castle is also well worth a visit for lover of lavish interiors.

Great photo, thanks for showing off this beautiful area. Snowdon isn't Britains 3rd highest peak though, it is Wales' highest and Britains 57th. There are a lot of higher peaks in Scotland. It is though, higher than Scafell which is in the Lakes in Cumbria, England.

Thanks a lot. Haven't been even close to NZ so looked up the crossing, there are some visual similarities but British peaks are shorter (Snowdon standing at a 1000m) from what looks to be an amazing hike! Have you done the Tongariro crossing? A nice thing about Snowdon is that we could see the Wales coast to one side and a number of hills on the other.
