Memories of Travel - a Submarine Dive for Grandpere!

A trip to the Caribbean is to find the sea, the beaches, the warmth and the nautical activities. Yet, there are many activities but I wanted to experience something that is not very widespread: a submarine dive and a visit to a marine park, the protected ecological park named Chankanaab.

Our hotel being in Cancun, early in the morning, we took a shuttle to Plaza del Carmen and then a ferry to Cozumel, a taxi to take us to the departure dock.

As the submarine is already offshore on the site, another ferryboat brings us there. The sea is calm, the ferry is stopped, but suddenly the Atlantis submarine emerges from the water next to us. While a group of forty people are coming out of the back of the submarine, our group is rushing forward.

Atlantis is driven by electric motors and the maximum depth of diving is 100 feet (30 m). It was manufactured in Vancouver at the end of the Second World War.

It is a long tube, the seats placed in the center oriented on the portholes through which we can see the marine flora, the corals and the different varieties of tropical fish.

The descent starts without any sensation, without any noise, except the voice of the guide who comments on the points to be observed: here a variety of fish, there, a coral reef, there, the ocean trench. As the descent begins, the colors change and then become shades of gray.

After 45 minutes of diving, we find the surface, happy to have visited places little frequented.
