The Blue Lagoon
Comino is a small island in the Maltese archipelago nestled between Malta and Gozo. Measuring 3.5 square kilometers, Comino is free of cars and only has a handful of residents.
Apart from its idyllic lagoon and beaches, Comino is also a nature reserve and bird sanctuary. The most prominent structure on Comino is Santa Maria Tower, a coastal watchtower built in 1618 by the Knight of Malta. The Order of Saint John also built the Saint Mary Battery in 1716 as part of the islands fortifications. The only other buildings on this remote location are a chapel, hotel and police station

The activities you can do there
The breathtaking Blue Lagoon is a natural swimming pool with transparent cyan waters and a sandy beach between Comino and the even tinier island of Cominotto. This picturesque island includes Santa Marija Bay, St Nicholas Bay and other surrounding caves and inlets perfect for swimming, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing or hiking. Day trips to Comino by ferry from Malta and Gozo are available throughout the year. Private boats can also be rented to take you on tours of the island and the Blue Lagoon. After the summer crowds have subsided, this piece of Mediterranean heaven can still be explored and enjoyed for its tranquility throughout spring, autumn and winter. The island'sā€™ only hotel, Comino Hotel is ideal for those looking for an extended stay.
