Being An Earthling - Minding the Mind - #4

Hello World to this beautiful day. For a moment now I have the urge to create and propose to all and every human the possibility to leave the boundaries of society behind. We are all born Free and with the natural right to live our life as we wish. To eat and drink is a birth right and Should must be respected by all and one.

That is the intro to my little series of thoughts about life on this planet.

Thanks @carlgnash, this is indeed a fact. But what exactly is this tool. I'm gonna share today, some of what I "know" about...

The Mind

Etymology

  • From Middle English minde, münde, ȝemünde, from Old English mynd, ġemynd (“memory, remembrance; memorial, record; act of commemoration; thought, purpose; consciousness, mind, intellect”), from Proto-Germanic mundiz, gamundiz (“memory, remembrance”), from Proto-Indo-European méntis (“thought”), from Proto-Indo-European men- (“to think”). Cognate with Old High German gimunt (“mind, memory”), Danish minde (“memory”), Icelandic minni (“memory, recall, recollection”), Gothic 𐌼𐌿𐌽𐌳𐍃 (munds, “memory, mind”), Latin mēns (“mind, reason”), Sanskrit मनस् (mánas), Ancient Greek μένος (ménos), Albanian mënd (“mind, reason”). Related to Old English myntan (“to mean, intend, purpose, determine, resolve”).

When I read through all the different sources in other languages, the one word who keeps repeating is

  • "memory", followed by
  • "thought" and
  • "recall".

Personally I especially like the meaning of the word in Sanskrit: source

  1. mind (in its widest sense as applied to all the mental powers), intellect, intelligence, understanding, perception, sense, conscience, will
  2. the spirit or spiritual principle, the breath or living soul which escapes from the body at death *
  3. thought, imagination, ex-cogitation, invention, reflection, opinion, intention, inclination, affection, desire, mood, temper, spirit

Though the 2nd part * of point 2 sounds wrong to me. In my life-long observations, I feel that this "breath" is our connection to the soul, an extension to the body and the soul is super-consciousness, all knowing, "the One and the All" and that-for not entirely "positioned" in the body.

Why do I feel that? It's a fact that we all share one consciousness, so to me consciousness is part of The One and All. The everything and nothing in the same instant moment.

All this said, and be assured this is not even scratching the surface of the subject for there is much much more to it, I'm coming back to the beginning of this chapter, "What kind of tool is the mind".

Philosophy is looking at the mind as:

  • The non-material substance or set of processes in which consciousness, perception, affectivity, judgement, thinking, and will are based! source

That sounds about to be my observation too. "Conclusion"; to me - the mind is the application needed, so the soul can conduct the body. And the "bits" to do that, are called thought.

And there is my next chapter, the thought. For we all should not think too much, then the moment we have a thought, we instantly have a conflict.

And to be an earthling my soul really needs to trust me, that I know how to use this "computer program"!

to be continued...
