[Swing Life#16]Balboa

Hi! It's Kyle.

It's been a long time since I last introduced swing dance to you due to my busy workload and vacation in Japan.

Today, I'm going to introduce you to Balboa which is a kind of swing dance.

Apart from Jitterbug, and Lindy Hop which I have already discussed, there are more types of swing dance, such as Blues and Balboa.

Put simply, Blues is a kind of slow jazz, and Balboa is a fast jazz.

Balboa is also a social dance which involves dancing with a partner and using 8 steps, as is the case with Lindy Hop, but different steps like step step hold step, step step hold step unlikely with Lindy hop lock step triple step step step triple step. (You need to rearrange this sentence. It's not good using the same word 'step' more than once) It requires the person dancing to be closer to their partner than Lindy Hop. This is the reason why some people prefer Balboa while others hesitate to try it.

The name Balboa comes from the Balboa Peninsula. The number of members of Balboa in Korea is less than Lindy Hop but it has become more popular recently due to the growing number of communities.

The reason why I started learning this was to dance to fast jazz. Because Lindy Hop uses triple steps, it is really tiring. I enjoy it but I wanted to try a new type of dance. So, here I am.

This is my first graduation performance with Balboa which was really good fun.

It may seem less dynamic and fun than Lindy Hop, but actually it isn't if you try it.

If you want to try it then dance with me with as your partner!
