College Street: A Natural Love For Book-Worms (Part 2)

I am not a native English-speaker and in fact I am not good at English. So, please bear with my grammatical mistakes.

If you are at the colorful College Street and ‘She’ do not have a place where you can take rest or lit a cigar with a coffee, it is never possible. O’ yes, The Coffee House And The College Square.
The later one is something about a sweet, lovely and light evening with a liquor tea mostly; the previous one is once a ‘Shaan’ (Royal) of Bengali ‘Adda’ (free chat), the extraordinary discussions, the time-consuming coffee with friends and office colleagues, which sometimes, or most of the times, include ‘Desi’ (National) ‘Biri’(a type of smoke)or foreign cigars with cold drinks or foreign liquors. Of course, The Coffee House is not about general or VIPs; it was the Bengalis’ most prestigious place to share and upload of their daily experiences and opinions, sitting round the table. In this house, there were no General, no VIPs; there were only Bengalis’—the then ultimate Bengalis.

Turn to the College Square; comparing to today’s conditional love, the 1960s-1970s unconditional ‘Bhalobasha’ (Love), where girls or women with either ‘Saree’ or ‘Salwar-Kameez’, and boys or men with ‘Dhoti-Panjabi’ or formal shirt-trouser, explain us, “Although we have died much before you came to the world; although we never understand you privacy of love in open; but our closed privacy, yes, our Bhalobasha, was at least not the pirated copies, but a copy of huge pages that you are reading today in your University-Course, and for you, this is just useless. Of course, it is useless, but in our time, it was of no ‘use’. If our great poet Kaviguru (Lord of Poetry) Rabindranath Tagore can love ‘Bideshini’ (Foreign Woman), if ‘Devdas’ can love ‘Paro’ till death, if Romeo-Juliet’s love story make us cry, then I challenge you, that our love is eternal forever”.
So, privacy today is opposite in meaning; sometimes it is clicked, recorded and sent to the internet. The consequences are known to everybody.

But what matters, college square is still a secret of love, sorrow, humanity and madness. Despite of today’s open relationship, college square is the proved place for ‘Misti Prem’ (Sweet Love), even in the selfish era. Some lovers never think of their future; they just love and love each-other, and keep promises till the end of life embrace them. That is why, world still alive, Kolkata alive, College Square alive.

Friends came after school and college, discussing their same day’s ups and downs, happiness and sorrows. College Square is filled with stresses that we, permanent ‘customers’ release everyday. A beautiful swimming-cum-water polo pool is characterizing its beauty, in exactly the center of the Square. In the morning and end afternoon, ‘Rajhans’ (Swans) indicates their permanent position on that pool or the space beside the pool. Some of them are expressing their beauty, some are sleepy; clicks are natural, which they like the most !!!
