The "magic" happens in the "lower part of an iceberg"
If you imagine your city without people/animals then you get a general picture of the system
It's a result of combination of technologies, nature and architecture

Like the city it provides a habitat for living creatures (more than 3,000 species of microbes, flora and fauna) which can treat waste water

And in this case the habitat is a complex of water, plants roots and artificially created root-like media

Benefits compared with traditional plant

• can be placed almost anywhere and takes less space
• is odor-free
• is more cost-effective

Water is always treated to the required standards set by authorities
