Can you imagine the New England Patriots without their star quarterback Tom Brady? Or maybe the Green Bay Packers without their gun-slinger Aaron Rodgers?

Usually when an NFL fan thinks of one of these teams they automatically think of the latter. So when the news broke about Drew Brees being sidelined for a possibility of 6 to 8 weeks it sent shockwaves throughout the media.

What's a team like the Saints without their starting quarterback and future Hall-of-Famer Drew Brees? I guess we will soon find out.

Brees tore a ligament in his thumb half-way through the first quarter in yesterday's match-up against the Los Angeles Rams. He was throwing downfield when his thumb met the hand of defensive lineman Aaron Donald.

After taking the blow to his thumb Brees attempted to pick-up a football lying on the ground. His thumb however (with the torn ligament) was unable to grip the ball and he quickly dropped it back to the ground.

Now the New Orleans Saints fans will have to rely on their back-up quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for at least six weeks.

If there is a bright-side to any of this story this would be it ... Bridgewater is currently the highest paid back-up in the NFL. He is being paid over 7 million dollars this year alone. He has experience as a starter in the NFL and he will be getting the first team reps all this week.

Hopefully with the extra practice, he will improve his performance from yesterday's debacle. After taking over for Brees in the first quarter against the Rams, Bridgewater was 17 of 30 for 165 yards (and no touchdowns).
