La Verna Sanctuary, 06/09/2019

Finally found it! It was a chapel built at the entrance of the monastery, where the place is finally met on the way up from the lower village. This chapel was built in 1602 on the site of a former large oak tree. According to tradition, when Francis first came to Mount La Verna (1214), he rested under this oak tree, and many birds of the forest flew to meet him. Inside the chapel, there is a modest statue made in 1887 to commemorate this fact. It is sad the old Oak not here.

I searched for a place where Saint Francis was welcomed by birds. There are many wonderful forest for walking around the monastery. Thanks to the guidance of google map, I was in a loss but joyful. The first point that it directed was wrong but not an odd because birds are singing and it's like a cozy haven. Young ones took a rest and was doing something.
