Today, I will conduct a photo excursion of a small Spanish town called Olite, which is in the Spanish region of Navarre. The city is known for the fact that it houses the castle of the Kings of Navarre, but there will be a separate post about the castle.

We chose this city for visiting for several reasons: it is only forty minutes drive from Pamplona, there is a beautiful castle. Just what you need for one day.

We have planned six hours for a trip to Olite, and I will immediately say that this time was enough. Although we did not have time to visit one museum, this museum worked from 10 to 14 and then from 17 to 20, and our bus went to 17:10. In the morning we preferred to inspect the castle - while it was cool and before the arrival of the main groups of tourists.

Bus stop number 2

The schedule of buses with the indication of the addresses of stops.
Without the knowledge of the streets - to understand which one this stop was difficult.

So, from Pamplona to Olite rides a bus from the central bus station. The bus runs every hour, so you can choose the right time for you. If you have a car, it's still easier.

The population of Olite is about four thousand people and therefore there is no bus station there, but there are bus stops in the number of four. They are connected with a small incident - the stops at which the bus from Pamplona stops is 2 and 4, and when he goes to Pamplona he stops at stops 1 and 3. Which is not very obvious and the bus can be missed.

We enter the Old Town, everywhere there are signs.

Like most cities in Spain with a rich and ancient history, the city is divided into two parts - the Old Town and the New Town. I, as a tourist, is interested in the old city. Narrow streets, Spaniards hurrying about their business, local flavor, bars right in the middle of the road, small hotels and shops.

Five minutes later we went to the central square to the Town Hall. There are also many restaurants.

The city in all tries to portray itself as an islet of the Middle Ages.

Poster of the theatrical festival.

In the Olite there are three main "attractions": the castle of the Kings of Navarre, the festival of classical theater and the medieval fair. Just these days there was a theater festival, it lasts two weeks. There were a lot of posters about the festival, and chairs hung in the windows of the buildings. Hanging chairs apparently symbolized the fact that in the past the audience went to the play with their chairs.

Behind the walls of the castle the town abruptly ends, fields, vineyards and an industrial zone begin.

Olite is also known for the fact that the episodes of the Borgia series were shot here. About what we are told by a small stella near the entrance to the church with QR codes for viewing the series on Google Play and the Apple Store.

The chair reminds tourists that a theater festival is held in the city. Again and again. Chairs everywhere. Precisely do not forget about the festival.

IMG_20170722_142332.jpg

No shortage of signs. But the whole town can be walked along and across in one hour, so you definitely will not get lost.

Unusual use of barrels from wine.

Although the city is small, and more than six hours to do here is simply nothing - the number of hotels here is more than in my Brovary (100 thousand inhabitants).

This we are already on the other side of the city, from here you can see a beautiful view of the castle.

A nice building, but what exactly is there we have not understood. On maps, it is also not signed.

Toy chairs also remind those who forgot that there is a theater festival in the city.

There are few lawns and therefore they are protected.

All the signs are stylized in medieval style. It's ice cream.

PANO_20170722_123411.jpg

Last look at the roof of Olite and go home.

Already standing at the bus stop, we realized that there was something wrong with the bus stop, and the bus for us would not come. A small brainstorming, studying Google and we gallop to the right stop. We made it on time, and the bus was late.

Stay tuned!
