Study Day

Up slightly before the crack of dawn. Well rested it might be added. It looked like, what we might called on the east coast, a foggy morning.

Did a shower run to the facilities and back on board for my classic brown sugar and maple oatmeal with banana slices. Over coffees started back into my PCOC training course. No that's not Polycystic Ovary Syndrome but a Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

In Canadian waters, if you operate a boat with a motor and use it for recreation, you need proof of competency — something that shows you have a basic understanding of how to operate your boat safely and know what to do in an emergency.

Considering there is a great deal of cross over from the subjects covered in my nauticed.org course, so far three modules of the PCOC course have been passed with first time testing.

Hope to have that finished over the weekend. It should go a long way to getting my insurance transferred to my name and will give me all the accreditation needed to ply Canadian waters. The instructions by Jason take things above and beyond what is covered in that course to giving me a refresher in sailing in general. It will also help with insurance when requesting coverage for a passage to Halifax. A separate policy will be likely required; known as a Passage Policy. The muscle memories could almost be heard snapping into place from our last weekend of sailing together. Can't wait to have Jason with me while sailing Makina for the first time.

Around 9:00 Chris, the previous owner, dropped me a text explaining that his Daughter required his assistance today and we would have to postpone our get together for the beginning of the week. The more important item is the bilge pump which should go in, obviously, pre-launch. Chris confirmed that it should be here on the boat, so may try to get Jose to install it if he has some extra time on Monday. That way we could launch before the end of the month and finish off other issues post-launch. At least she shall be in the water.

Chris is really taking things above and beyond any obligation as the previous owner. Expressed my gratitude for his continued help while texting with him this morning. The boating community seems a great tribe to be joining in these challenging times.

Other than a slight siesta at the heat of the day, worked on the PCOC course most of the afternoon. It must have been a scorcher as around 17:00 thought to head up the bluffs for some supplies and it still seemed pretty warm out of the shade to me.

Did my business and returned. My Son-In-Common-Law had suggested starting to use the propane stove and it made sense. Thought to work my way towards it with some microwave meal style stuff, like rice dishes. Then once in the habit of not eating out every day a little trip to the Dollar Tree for pots and pans. Even in Nova Scotia my kitchen has been pretty much closed down other than micro'ed stuff and coffee do to the arrangement with my Daughter and Son-In-Common-Law. They have me upstairs each evening, when in NS, for supper. Always a good healthy meal. Then once a week we order in a food of their choice and we watch a movie or sometimes follow a series on Netflix or the like. Starting to use Makina's galley makes sense.

Well might take a little YouTube time before getting back to the course. So shall end this log until tomorrow.

May the wind be at your back!
