Greetings dear friends of the Architecture+Design Community, I am here to continue showing some stations of the Medellin Metro in Colombia to highlight this sophisticated train service that crosses the capital city of Antioquia. Although you know, I like to walk a lot but using this service is also healthy, in this case for the environment because the transport company has been implementing the use of renewable energy which reduces CO2 pollution.
In the previous post I told you about and showed you two stations of this transportation system, San Antonio a transfer station and Santa Lucia which is a Line B station. As I said, I will be showing you other stations so you can know a little more about the subway of this important Colombian city. This time I bring you the Envigado station, which has an impressive location and view for being next to the Medellin River.
Saludos estimados amigos de la Comunidad Arquitectura+Diseño, me encuentro por aquí para seguir mostrando algunas estaciones del Metro de Medellín en Colombia para resaltar este sofisticado servicio de trenes que atraviesa la ciudad capital de Antioquia. Aunque ya saben, me gusta caminar mucho pero usar este servicio también es saludable, en este caso para el ambiente porque la empresa de transporte ha ido implementando el uso de energía renovables lo que reduce la contaminación por CO2.
En la publicación anterior les hablé y les mostré dos estaciones de este sistema de transporte, San Antonio una estación de transferencia y Santa Lucia que es una estación de la Línea B. Como les dije, voy a ir mostrando otras estaciones para que puedan conocer un poco más sobre el metro de esta importante ciudad colombiana. En esta ocasión les traigo la estación Envigado, que tiene una ubicación y una vista impresionante por estar junto al Río Medellín.
Envigado Station is my destination this day, taking advantage of the moment to take some pictures and share them with you because you can not waste the view you have from this station. There are many lines that stand out, between the natural and urban as you can appreciate yourselves. It is an interesting fusion because while the subway develops an ecological policy, the Medellin River next to it is a great urban sewer.
La Estación Envigado es mi destino este día, aprovechando el momento para tomar unas fotos y compartirlas con ustedes porque no se puede desperdiciar la vista que se tiene desde esta estación. Son muchas las líneas que destacan, entre lo natural y urbano como pueden apreciar ustedes mismos. Es una fusión interesante porque mientras el metro desarrolla una política ecológica, contrariamente el Río Medellín a su lado, es una gran cloaca urbana.
Well friends, this is the Envigado station, there you can see the name of the station.
Bien amigos, esta es la estación Envigado, allá se puede ver pequeñito el nombre de la estación.
You can also see how dirty the Medellín River has become, as I said, a great urban sewer, after having been an important source of clean and natural water, but these aberrations are the consequences of so-called development.
También se puede ver lo sucio del Río Medellín convertido, como les dije, en una gran cloaca urbana, luego de haber sido una importante fuente de agua limpia y natural pero estas aberraciones son las consecuencias del llamado desarrollo.
The construction of this station serves the municipality with the same name and is located on Line A of the subway, as you can see in the map where its location is marked on the dark blue strip.
La construcción de esta estación presta servicio al municipio con el mismo nombre y se encuentra en el Línea A del metro, como lo pueden ver en el mapa donde se señala su ubicación sobre la franja de color azul oscuro.
See how the station rises on a terrain that could be risky for any construction, however all the provisions were made to start the highly engineered works that characterize the megastructure of the Medellin Metro.
Vean como se levanta la estación sobre un terreno que pudiera ser riesgoso para cualquier construcción, sin embargo todas las previsiones se hicieron para iniciar los trabajos de alta ingeniería que caracteriza a la megaestructura del Metro de Medellín.
The work contains areas for commercial premises, public restrooms, as well as all the elements of a building such as this one, which includes wide stairways leading to the interior and exterior of the station.
La obra contiene áreas para locales comerciales, baños públicos, además de todos los elementos propios de un edifico como este que incluye amplias escaleras que conducen al interior y exterior de la estación.
The lighting that can be seen is natural during daylight hours, thanks to the large windows and free areas that characterize the stations of this subway system. This is something that catches my attention because it is common for subway systems to be subway and as such enclosed, but in this case it is not so.
La iluminación que se aprecia es natural en las horas del día, gracias a las amplias ventanas y áreas libres que caracterizan en las estaciones de este sistema de metro. Esto es algo que me llama mucho la atención porque lo común es que los sistemas de metros sean subterráneos y como tal encerrados, pero en este caso no es así.
The station follows a platform model for the arrival of trains, with an almost open sky style, ventilated and illuminated mostly with natural light. Although at night the use of electricity is reduced due to daytime savings.
La estación sigue un modelo de plataforma para la llegada de los trenes, con un estilo casi a cielo abierto, ventilado e iluminado mayormente con luz natural. Aunque al llegar la noche se usa energía eléctrica de forma reducida por el ahorro en el día.
Looking in the other direction from the Envigado station, I could see the train on the railroad tracks next to the Medellin River. This is another impressive view of this Colombian subway system and pride of this nation.
Mirando hacia la otra dirección desde la estación Envigado, pude apreciar el tren sobre las vías férreas junto al Rio Medellín. Esta es otra impresionante vista de este sistema de metro colombiano y orgullo de esta nación.
The subway travels very fast and so do the river currents. While technology gives the train the thrust, nature does it in the river currents. Both follow their course, like a top speed race, only one goes with the force of nature and the other thanks to technology.
El metro viaja muy rápido y las corrientes del río también. Mientras la tecnología le da el empuje al tren, la naturaleza lo hace en las corrientes del río. Ambos siguen su curso, como una carrera de máxima velocidad, solo que una va con la fuerza de la naturaleza y la otra gracias a la tecnología.
The river is channelized and regular maintenance work must be done to prevent the water from undermining the sides of the railroad tracks. At least the surrounding areas look very clean and this is a good sign of the environmental concern of the citizens despite the ecological damage to this important river.
El Río está canalizado y regularmente se deben hacer trabajos de mantenimiento para evitar que las aguas socaven los costados de las vías del tren. Al menos se ven muy limpias las áreas alrededor y esto es buena señal de la preocupación ambiental de los ciudadanos pese al daño ecológico en este importante río.
The Medellin Metro maintains conservationist strategies as part of the responsibility in the management of natural resources, thinking of giving better development to the country thanks to a less polluted environment. Let's hope that all the wills of a country unite in the same national mission for environmental health... ... And with this reflection in my mind I boarded the next train, where there was no room for one more soul.
El Metro de Medellín mantiene estrategias conservacionistas como parte de la responsabilidad en el manejo de los recursos naturales, pensando en darle mejor desarrollo al país gracias a un ambiente menos contaminado. Esperemos que todas las voluntades de un país se unan en una misma misión nacional para la salud ambiental... Y con esta reflexión en mi mente abordé el siguiente tren, donde no había lugar para un alma más.
