Let's talk about the monumental tomb erected in the heart of the city by the Lycians, who tried to show us the immortality of the soul and that they were not afraid of death. The place you see in the picture is a covered tomb built in the name of the King at the end of the street called Uzunçarşı. The tomb, which has become a symbol of the street and its inhabitants, is in the Kas district of Antalya.
The King's tomb, known as the Lion Sarcophagus in the center of Kaş, is located at the foot of a plane tree. It impresses as our historical heritage that has survived to the present day. The king's tomb was built by placing old building stones reminiscent of a light red color on top of each other, forming a single block. The lower part of the tomb is about one and a half meters long and has bead motifs and inscribed inscriptions. The middle part of the sarcophagus is made of old stones in a rectangular shape with two cavities, one of which is closed. On the sides of these stones, although not clearly visible, there are figures of a man and a woman with their legs joined together. On the other side of the tomb is a female figure wearing a long garment and a mantle. At the top of the tomb, there is an arch-shaped lid. On both sides of this lid, there are lion heads standing side by side in pairs. The lions, four in total, also have a frightening facial expression. The lion heads seem to have undertaken the task of holding the lid of the tomb.
When you come to Kaş district of Antalya, I am sure that you will feel like I did, that you are on an adventurous and adventurous journey where you can see natural beauties and historical riches together. When we look from the hill, we set foot in the city where we will discover the islands formed on the deep blue sea, the Taurus Mountains surrounding the sea and the historical ruins that have survived until today.
This is my third time in the center of Kas. Each time I stay here for two or a day. It takes about three and a half hours from Antalya, the city where I live. On the way here, you travel along the coast, seeing the sparkling blue sea. Before entering the city center, you can stop by the side of the road and see the magnificent harbor of Kaş and the houses built on the mountain slope, which are usually two storeys. There are colorful boutique hotels and hostels in the center where you can stay, usually with breakfast included.
I see the city, which has been one of the settlements of many civilizations since ancient times, as a meeting point of natural beauty and historical richness. Kalkan and Patara holiday resorts and the world-famous Kaputaş beach, which are close to Kaş, make this region distinctive and popular. I can say that boat tours departing from Kaş and Kekova harbors are one of the most enjoyable activities to do in the region.
When you go down to Kaş square, there are narrow alleyways on the left and right. There are gift shops, hostels and restaurants and cafes to meet your needs in the colorful and cute alleyways. Kas harbor is in the center of the city. Ships depart from the harbor at 10:00 in the morning for tour boats. Here you can see many ship tours docked on the shore. The center of the city is more lively and more crowded in the evenings. The fish restaurants on the shore are packed. When you go to the inner streets, live performances and lively music are played in cafes and bars.
When you look at Kaş from a hilltop, you can see a magnificent sea, whitewashed houses and peninsulas above the sea. Kaş, a tourism paradise, is very crowded especially in the summer months. There are even many Europeans who come to the town for vacation and then settle here. Kas is very famous for its uniquely clean sea and underwater riches. I can say that it stands out as one of the most favorite places for diving enthusiasts. While walking through the streets, you can see that local, traditional weaving stands out.
Finally, let me talk about the beauties that fascinated and impressed me the most. The tour boat departed from the harbor in Kaş and the tour boat's tour of the islands and the views were spectacular. Watching the crystal clear sea gradually change from turquoise to deep blue gave me great pleasure. You can try it. You should definitely swim at Kaputaş beach, which is one of the few beaches in Turkey and whose water flows into the sea from the foothills of the Taurus Mountains. Şimdi, zamana meydan okuyan bir çınar ağacının gölgesine gidelim. Ruhun ölümsüzlüğünü ve ölümden korkmadıklarını bizlere göstermeye çalışan Likyalıların, kentin göbeğine diktikleri anıt mezarla ilgili konuşalım. Resimde gördüğünüz yer ise, uzunçarşı olarak adlandıran sokağın sonundaki Kral adına yapılan örtülü bir mezardır. Sokağın ve orada yaşayanların simgesi haline gelen mezar, Antalya'nın Kaş ilçesindedir.
Kaş'ın merkezinde Aslanlı Lahit olarak bilinen Kral mezarı, bir çınar ağacının dibinde konumlandırılmıştır. Günümüze kadar sağlam gelmiş tarihi mirasımız olarak göz doldurmaktadır. Kralın mezarı, hafif kırmızı rengi anımsatan eski yapı taşları üst üste koyarak, tek bir blok oluşturularak yapılmış. Mezarın, alt kısmı yaklaşık bir buçuk metre uzunluğunda olup, üzerinde boncuk motifleri ve yazlı kitabeler bulunuyor. Lahitin orta kısmı, dikdörtgen şeklinde biri kapalı olmak üzere iki boşluğu bulunan eski taşlardan oluşmuş. Bu taşların yan bölümlerinde, tam belli olmasada, bacaklarını birleştirmiş olan bir erkek ve bir de kadın figüranları bulunuyor. Mezarın diğer yan bölümünde de üzerine uzun bir kıyafet giymiş olan, mantolu kadın figürü dikkat çekiyor. Mezarın en üst tarafında, kemer şeklinde bir kapak oluşturulmuş. Bu kapağın her iki tarafında da ikili olarak, yan yana duran aslanbaşları var. Toplamda dört adet olan aslanların korkutucu bir yüz ifadeleri de var. Aslanbaşları, mezarın kapağını tutma görevini üstlenmiş görünüyorlar.
