The 2006 version of The Covenant is a supernatural thriller film about four high school boys who are the descendants of witches and possess magical powers. The boys, Caleb Danvers (Steven Strait), Pogue Parry (Sebastian Stan), Reid Garwin (Taylor Kitsch), and Tyler Simms (Toby Hemingway), are the sons of the four founding families of Ipswich, Massachusetts, a town steeped in witch history.
On their 13th birthdays, the boys manifest their magical powers, which grow stronger until they Ascend at 18. Ascending increases their powers significantly but also ties their powers to their life force. The more an Ascended individual uses their magic, the more addicted to it they become, which can lead to premature aging and death.
The boys keep their powers a secret from the outside world, but their lives are turned upside down when a mysterious stranger named Chase Collins (Chace Crawford) arrives in Ipswich. Chase is also a witch, but he is from a rival coven that was thought to have been wiped out centuries ago. Chase has come to Ipswich to exact revenge on the Sons of Ipswich for the death of his ancestors.
The boys must unite to defeat Chase and protect their town, but they must also learn to control their own powers and the dark temptations that come with them.
The Covenant is a coming-of-age story about power, responsibility, and the dangers of addiction. It is also a celebration of friendship and the importance of standing up for what is right.

He is very cautious about using the Power, due to the effect it has had on his father, and is the first to Ascend.
Sebastian Stan as Chase Collins – A new student at Spenser who befriends the Sons of Ipswich, and is the film's main antagonist. - Laura Ramsey as Sarah Wenham – A new student at Spenser who transfers from a Boston public school and Caleb's love interest and Kate’s friend.
