The film is set in San Diego, California, and follows the story of the Rancho Carne Toros cheerleading team, who have won the national championship for five years in a row. The Toros are led by their captain, Torrance Shipman (Dunst).

One year, the Toros discover that their cheerleading routines have been stolen from the Clovers, a hip-hop cheerleading team from East Compton. The Toros are forced to come up with a new routine in order to compete in the national championship.

The Toros eventually find a new choreographer, Isis (Dushku), who helps them to create a new routine that is both original and innovative. The Toros go on to compete in the national championship, and they face off against the Clovers in the final round.

In the end, the Toros win the national championship, but they realize that it is more important to have fun and be themselves than to win at all costs.
