Hello Splinterlands friends and family! 👋 Today, as part of the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, I’m thrilled to spotlight the incredible power of one of the latest promo cards: Elanor Bravefoot! 🎉 This card is not just a new addition; it’s a game-changer that can shift the tides of battle in your favor! ⚔️

Before we even start I urge everyone to go to the market and get at least one copy if you dont have one. On this post Ill explain why. But do it before its price skyrockets.

I. Introduction:

A few weeks ago, I shared a post detailing my journey to acquiring this card and the strategic reasoning behind my choice. 🧠 Now, I’m back to reaffirm my decision and demonstrate Elanor in action! 💪

In this post, I’ll dive deeper into the strengths of Elanor Bravefoot and showcase a thrilling battle where she shines. My goal? To inspire you to grab this card while it’s still available and take your gameplay to the next level! 🚀

II. General Overview of the Card: Abilities per Level

Elanor Bravefoot is a legendary, ranged, 0 mana card. As such, she cannot be used when the ruleset prohibits legendary or ranged cards.

At max level, the card has 2 ranged attack and 3 main abilities. 🏹

Weary is a debuff introduced recently with the Rebellion reward cards. At the beginning of round 1 and each round thereafter, units have a 10% chance to become Exhausted. This chance increases by 10% each round, up to a maximum of 80%. ⚠️ This debuff can be costly, and with a bit of bad RNG, your unit might never attack in a game. The card has this debuff starting from level 1.

At level 2, the card acquires the ability Blasphemy of Uul, which permanently gains +1 ranged power for each allied card named Fiend. This effectively means that this 0 mana card can add up to 4 damage per turn! 💥 That's a lot of damage for a card with no cost to play. This ability is interesting as it introduces the concept of synergy, where certain cards should be played together. I believe this is just the start, and we'll see many similar abilities in the future.

Lastly, at max level, the card gains the Strengthen ability. This ability increases the health of all friendly units by 1. 💪 This is a crucial ability for Elanor, especially since she costs 0 mana, which means she will likely be paired with other low-mana cards that tend to have smaller health pools. In such cases, an extra 1 health could be the difference between winning or losing a game!

III. The Importance of 0 Mana Cards:

chicken

As I pointed out in my latest post, the most important aspect of Elanor is that she is a zero-mana card. We've seen how crucial cards like Chicken 🐔 and later the Fiend cards have been. Notably, Elanor is the only 0 mana card in the Rebellion set, and she’s a NEUTRAL card. Both of these details are significant. This strongly reminds us of the versatility of the old Chicken card. It’s also important to note that this is a ranged card, while all other 0 mana cards in the game (especially in Modern) are melee. 🎯 This is crucial, as I’ll showcase in the upcoming battle—it's always useful to have 0 mana cards that can fit any ruleset.

fiend

Another important aspect to consider, while I still can't confirm this entirely, is that it seems reasonable to think Elanor might be the only 0 mana card for Rebellion. 🤔 If that’s the case, it’s a big deal. Seasoned players know that a 0 mana card is invaluable for rounding out a team when there’s no mana left, particularly in matches with 12-14 mana caps. I’ve been using this card a lot in Rebellion-only tournaments, for example, and having it while your opponent doesn’t makes a huge difference.

It’s also fair to assume we might not see another 0 mana card in the next set either. The game's balance requires that these cards remain limited; having too many available could disrupt the fragile balance of things. For instance, with dual summoners, there seems to be an excess of 0 mana options, but this could change in upcoming sets.

As I mentioned in my latest post, I urge everyone to pick up at least one copy of this card. If it turns out to be the only 0 mana card available for Modern Play moving forward, you’ll be glad you have it. 😎 As of now, it’s the only 0 mana card that works in "No Melee" rulesets in Modern, for example. Even though the promo sale is over you can still obtain this card on the market for a reasonable price.

IV. The fight!

Battle: Against @azipoon

As always, a post featuring a card isn't complete without an awesome battle to showcase it 🎯. I really enjoyed this fight because I got the chance to use one of the latest Rebellion reward cards, Gallicus, along with Elanor Bravefoot. 💥

rulesets

The first thing that caught my eye in this fight was the ruleset—it’s a 20 mana match with only Life and Dragon splinters available. ⚔️ This is crucial for me since I don’t have Ilthain, and I typically struggle in battles where Life splinter is open, especially when it's focused on ranged monsters. 🎯

After reviewing both teams, one noticeable advantage is that I have 2 more units than my opponent. ⚖️ This difference can be crucial, as having more units generally sways the outcome of a battle from loss to victory. While my units were overall cheaper in terms of mana, mostly consisting of 4 and 2 mana cards, in the end at 0 mana left I managed to fill my lineup with Elanor, and that’s why 0 mana cards are so important. The enemy, however, doesn't seem to have this card in their deck.

Though Elanor didn’t play a critical role in this particular fight, I still appreciated the match because it showcased how essential Elanor is for any deck. In a low mana battle where only ranged monsters are allowed, having Elanor becomes a must-have! 🔥

Turn 2:

image.png

At the start of Turn 2, both tanks have taken some damage, but neither has fallen yet. My team's strategy relied on a strong, cheap tank with a shield and a damage debuff from my summoner, Quix. This effectively reduced the enemy team's damage output, but with the Cripple ruleset active, my tank was still taking a lot of damage and was close to falling. The enemy, on the other hand, opted for an evasion tank. Aria Bandit is a great choice for this role due to its high base speed and dodge ability. They also selected Ilthain as their summoner, which is a popular choice in range-only matchups because it provides the Return Fire ability to their entire team, causing them to take damage every time they hit us. ⚔️

The fight continues, and the enemy tank ends up dying twice. Meanwhile, my own tank is close to dying, not just from taking damage but due to the Cripple effect depleting its life pool. 💔

Turn 3:

image.png

By the start of Turn 3, my tank is still standing but has already died once, so it’s only 2 hits away from dying permanently. However, the enemy’s off-tank is already taking damage. As you can see, my entire backline is also damaged due to the Return Fire ability. Thankfully, the damage taken by my backline isn't enough to kill any of my units. 🙏

Turn 4:

image.png

By Turn 4, my Aria Bandit manages to kill the enemy's healer for the first time at the start of the turn. This is a crucial moment since if you eliminate a unit before its turn, that unit will skip its turn and won’t be able to attack at all. In this case, it means the enemy is also out of heals for the turn. Even though the card revived itself due to Rebirth, it couldn't contribute further in the fight because its turn was skipped. ⏳

image.png

At this point, the fight was essentially over. Some of my units may die from the backfire, but the enemy team is in no position to deal any more meaningful damage. 🎉

image.png
In the end this sps and glint were my rewards. Not too shabby for a single fight.

V. Conclusion:

Thank you all for taking the time to read this post! A special shoutout to @azipoon for an exciting battle on the battlefield. 🌟 It’s always a pleasure to face such a skilled opponent. Our matches have been a mix of victories and defeats, but each encounter teaches me something new.

Reflecting on this match, Elanor Bravefoot proved to be a vital asset in a low-mana, ranged-only setup. Her presence not only strengthened my team but also showcased how crucial she can be in these types of battles. 🌈 I believe she will continue to be a game-changer in future matchups. I look forward to our next clash and the strategies we’ll bring to the table! May the best player win! 💪⚔️
