Online Education; Expanding Accessibility & Flexibility.

The importance of education can't be quantified in the world we live in today and it makes me laugh when people still don't place any priority on it despite having the privilege. I have known and believed that education doesn't guarantee success but the world would have been a whole different place without education. Let's put the acquisition of knowledge aside because if we look deeply, the lifestyle of the majority of those who are truly educated is very much different because of their advanced reasoning ability influenced by the knowledge they have acquired.

Education is a big deal for me and judging from my experience, it can bring opportunities even though it doesn't guarantee success. Hive is one of the opportunities we are enjoying because of the education we have acquired or without education, can many of us give quality engagement on the blockchain?

Among the things technology has helped improve a lot globally is education and this improvement has made acquiring knowledge very much easier even though there are challenges attached.

While I was in secondary school, my class topper back then happened to be a boy from a wealthy home and we were closed friends. I always wondered where he learned a lot of things from and later discovered that his dad always got him lectures recorded on a storage device. He learned science subjects and was very much ahead of us because the knowledge he had acquired was beyond things taught in the classroom.

The first time I watched one of the lectures on his PC, I was amazed at how the lecturer in the video broke down the topic and made it very understandable. It was very much better than what we were taught in class just because our teachers were also limited to some teaching material and the internet wasn't of rampant use in many Nigeria schools unlike some parts of the world where it was the other way around.

Things move from just sitting in the classroom room for lectures, to buying lecture discs but it's all different now with the help of technology. It took things to a point where education became more flexible than we could ever imagine.

I always thought online classes were overhyped because I had never taken one before until COVID-19 came and students across the world had to take lectures online due to the total lockdown. With the help of online classes, students were able to stay intact with their studies; lectures were taken and assignments were given. Honestly, it was beautiful to know that acquiring knowledge could be that flexible but there were a lot of challenges.

Internet issues were a huge setbacks for people in my part of the world, you could just get cut off all of a sudden and lectures won't wait for you. Another challenge with online classes is a distraction, imagine receiving a call or a notification popping up during a class, it causes distraction which can be an issue if it happens often.

Thirdly, I don't think online classes are okay when taking practical-oriented courses. If you have to do practical-oriented courses, physical classes are better because the school can provide materials/apparatus if you don't have one, buying those things just to learn can be quite challenging.

There are a few other challenges but looking at the positive side of it, online class is awesome. You can receive lectures anywhere and anytime as long as you have a stable internet and PC. It's easy for you to arrange your schedule as a working class to attend online classes and that's why many people can take professional courses across the world.

In addition to the advantage of online classes, I think it's cheaper for people in third-world countries who are taking online classes from overseas. Without online courses, their struggles start with getting a visa to study abroad which requires lots of money depending on the country they are going to, they have to pay for accommodations, adapt to a different environment and many other things but with online classes, they need just tuition fee, a stable internet network, PC/smartphone and complete concentration.

Both physical and online education have their advantage and disadvantage so it's left for us as an individual to choose which works best for us.
