Description:
NOW function in Excel or Google Sheets returns the serial number of today's date and time.
Like TODAY function, NOW function is mostly used in other functions, dashboards and summary sheets.
TODAY function gives us an integer serial number while NOW function gives us a serial number with decimal to include the time.
If you format the cell B2 to NUMBER, you will get the serial number corresponding to the date and time now.
This returns the date and time today based on the time and date on your computer. Whenever you update the workbook or refresh using the (F9) button on your keyboard, it will automatically update the time and date. So every second, it updates the number. If your cell format is MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM without the seconds, it will update every minute.
We can also use the date and time that it will return with other functions to create a summary/dashboard that updates its numbers based on time and date now.
We will explore more on the other functions that would probably use NOW function.
Function Structure:
=NOW()
Yes, you see it right. This doesn't need arguments inside the parenthesis (brackets).
As there is no argument inside this function and this is the only way to write it, there will be no examples in this post as well.
