I also show some sidewalks and #streets, some #gems of #cars and old #automobiles are always standing around here.
if you walk around here you will nearly see the same. The big commercial hall, and all of it.
in some streets you can see #messages like this #vegan one
from the Triumphal Arch of Rua Augusta to the Elevador and back
This spot is more than well known here, Climb to one of Lisbon's iconic places for a unique view of the beautiful capital of Portugal.
The Triumphal Arch of Rua Augusta is known for its pompous appearance and has always strongly impressed everyone who were walking on the busiest pedestrian street in Lisbon.
What was not possible in the past is now feasible and so today you can also visit the top of this magnificent monument and catch a truly fantastic and beautiful view of the Baixa de Lisboa and the River.
This powerful place represents the strength of Lisbon, reborn after the fury of land, fire and sea that consumed it in the earthquake of 1755.
I walked a bit around here. If you are close here in #lisboa you can even visit the other famous icon of the Capital, "Santa Justa Elevator" let me show you this elevator too.
Santa Justa Elevator - Lisbon
The well-known Santa Justa #Lift or also known under the name Carmo Lift is an #elevator, or lift, in the civil parish of Santa Justa, in the #historical heart of #Lisbon, the capital of #Portugal.
Situated at the end of Rua de Santa Justa, it connects the lower streets of the Baixa with the higher Largo do Carmo (Carmo Square).
If I remember right, the #Architectural #style is called #Neo-Gothic.
It has a Height of 45 metres aka 148 ft.
The #Architect of this special icon was Mister Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard and it's a #National #Monument.
some background
The hills of Lisbon have through all times presented a liiiittle problem for travel between the lower ruas of the main Baixa and the higher Largo do Carmo (Carmo Square).
To master the movement between the two, and make it easier for the civil and military engineer Roberto Arménio presented a project to the Lisbon municipal council in 1874. Another project was also suggested in 1876, that included rail-lines that would be pulled by animals up an inclined plane, stuff like that.
In May 1882 founder and representative of the Companhia dos Ascensores Mecânicos de Lisboa, Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, petitioned lisabon's council for permission to explore some alternative plans for constructing an inclined transport moved by mechanical ways and technologies. On 1st of June in the year 1882, Mesnier, a Porto-born engineer of French parentage, was granted a licence to proceed.
Only to give some infos about the history of this Elevador. Its always good to know a bit #history right? I don't wanna be tooo boring with the facts so this should be enough, hahahaha.
Some more randomly #streetphotography of some sidewalks and ways of the main street. Lisboa has such beautiful corners and is always a nice visit and #travel spot.
Hope you guys liked my #Wednesdaywalk today.
