THE VERSE AND THE WINE (an original poem)

wine&words.jpg

I pledge my chalice to life first,
Then raise my glass in mighty thirst.
My eyes become cheerful and puny,
And lips start to burst out words:

"We drink to my beloved honey";
"Another toast for love and money".
My comrade had gone - I'm left all alone.
But who cares when the weather is sunny?

The wine is swirling; the bed is a bore;
Tonight, my privilege is the floor.
Another drink will not make things worse;
"Let's raise it for a marvelous verse"!
