Unusual Glory Effect - Optical Phenomenon- Brocken Spectre

glory effect.jpg

The glory effect as it is known is a very unusual optical phenomenon that is caused by the light of the sun and sometimes the moon interacting with water particles.
It forms a halo around the shadow of the observers head.

The brocken spectre is generally seen at high altitude in the mountains, when you are up so high that the clouds are beneath you. So that when the sun is low, the shadow of the climber is magnified and reflected in the clouds.

This photo was taken from my mobile, looking out to sea over Bray Head.
What makes it so unusual is that Bray Head is only 243metres.
But the conditions are just right and the light extra special.

I hope that the photos reflect and transmit in your heart, the feel of this magical evening.
