Callanish Standing Stones - Magical History

Callanish is a site on the Isle of Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides (Western Isles), Scotland. Situated 13 miles west of Stornoway.

The Callanish Stones, a cross-shaped setting of standing stones erected around 3000 BC, are one of the most spectacular megalithic monuments in Scotland.

Well worth a visit. Great at sunrise or sunset, though be prepared to have lots of visitors around at these times. I have many shots taken in sunny weather, though for me it is most atmospheric when the clouds, typical of Scotland, are pressing down.

Stones vary in size and some are up to 3 metres tall.

Here is a black and white shot.
