A SCENIC OUTING IN NORTHWEST USA

As some of you know I took yesterday off and went on an outing with my son-in-law. He and my daughter and have small weekend get away place north of where we live, in the state of Washington. Here is 2 photos from their shared dock overlooking the Pend Oreille river. I found this on line in Collins dictionary:

Word origin of 'Pend Oreille'
Fr pend(re), to hang + oreille, ear: name given by the Fr to local Salishan Indians who wore ear pendants

Now for the photos (these are from two different directions:

We went through part of the Kalispel Indian reservation. As you will see there was a field of buffalo that I was able to get one decent photograph. Next trip I want to have my zoom lens figured out better for closeups: ( found the following in definition of Kalispel in Wikipedia)

The name Kalispell is a Salish word meaning "flat land above the lake".

Scientists believe that bison came to North America via a land bridge from Asia. As herbivores, the bison adapted to the Eastern woodlands and Great Plains, receiving nourishment from the rich grasses. ... The history of the buffalo is entwined with the plight of the Native Americans in the American West.

We also stopped at the following:

Many of the photos from inside the cave did not come out as well as I would have liked but I picked out a nice sampling:
