Oban and the Isles

Oban was a fantastic coastal town. It had docks for the many ferries that would go out to the islands that surrounded Scotland's western coast. First thing I did when I arrived there, was to find a nice little pub with a view of the bay, and have a pint with some haggis.

On our way our to Staffa Island, the ferry passed by a few really nice sights. One of which was the Eilean Musdile Lighthouse. Love the shots that I was able to get of it from the ferry.

Also passed by Duart Castle.

Staffa Island was an very cool little island out in the middle of nowhere. It was created from basalt columns, and had a natural cave named Fingal's Cave. It is normally a breeding ground for puffins as well, but I had just missed their season.

We docked on a tiny little dock, only long enough for us to be unloaded from the boat. From there, we were allowed to climb all around the island.

After Staffa Island, we took our small boat to the Isle of Iona. It was a very interesting place, with an old monastery that used to be raided by the vikings. It was also the site of the graves of the kings.

It was a long trek back, our ferry was running late. Once I got back to Oban, it was a quick shot of scotch with the bed and breakfast owner, and then off to bed. The next day would be onward to Glasgow.
