A Ghostly San Michele in Foro - LUCCA, ITALY

Italy 909.JPG

San Michele in Foro is a Basilica in Lucca, Italy. Located in Tuscany, the Basilica is built over the ancient Roman forum and dedicated to the Archangel, Michael. The first recorded mentioning of the church is in 795 as ad foro or "in the forum". Pope Alexander II, formerly the Bishop of Lucca, had the church rebuilt in 1070. The interior of the Basilica features a Madonna with Child terracotta by Luca della Robbia and a panel with Four Saints by Filippino Lippi.

I took this photo upon returning to our room at the Hotel Puccini. Turning to look down the alley from the Hotel entrance I saw this eerie, Gothic, image. Don't let it scare you, Lucca is a beautiful city, and one worth visiting.
