RAINBOW ROAD
When owned by slaveholders, the buildings of Cape Town's Bo-Kaap neighborhood were all painted white. Upon gaining their freedom, the quarter's majority-Muslim occupants painted their houses in bright colors to celebrate Eid, the end of Ramadan.
NECK AND NECK
Two young male giraffes take a break from fighting in Tanzania's Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Giraffes fight by bashing their necks against each other, trying to establish dominance and a reputation as the better mate.
