Oldest Operating Electric Tram System in Asia
Trams are not a common sight in India especially when it is operated in only one city out of 4000 cities and towns. The city of Kolkata has been operating the Tram network since 1902 !! So if you happen to see this iconic engineering marvel which is still in service, then consider yourself very lucky. Some of these machines are over 100 years old !!!
If I remember correctly, it was a cold November evening few years ago and I had landed in Kolkata Airport from Pune. While I was on my way to the hotel, sitting inside a yellow Ambassador Taxi, I saw this vintage beauty. I immediately clicked 1 picture with my mobile camera. The light violet twilight sky acted as a perfect background and set the tone for this picture !!
