What Does An Organic Store In New York's East Village Look Like ? (My Pics)

This is a family owned organic (or 'health food' store as they used to be known) in my neighborhood in the East Village. Now the first thing you will notice about this store is the aisles are very narrow ! You can see it in some of the pics. Why? Well it's narrow because these old buildings are just kind of built that way so there's not a lot of room. Also in New York we have a saying that goes "Space is at a premium" and basically that means is there's a shortage of space! So if you're used to really wide and spacious supermarkets and stores you may definitely be a little claustrophobic in the NYC !

Next I show you the basic setup -with fruit and produce in the front and the bulk items in the back.I won't say there's a lot of bulk items but you can buy staples like oatmeal, sugar or rice at a cheaper price here than by getting it elsewhere. Also there are several items I just find unusual like the edamame dip, peanut butter powder and the raw macadamia nut spread.
Now I haven't tried the edamame yet (though it looks tasty!) but I have tried the raw macadamia nut spread and it's delicious! I highly urge you to try that if you can ,though it's a bit expensive. They also carry dairy here evidenced by the huge yogurt section.I don't eat that myself. This place is called Commodities and it's on 1st avenue between 10th and 11th. Check them out if you're in the area ,open until 9.
