MAYHEM AT THE CAPITOL OF THE "EXCITED UNITED STATES"

I stayed up yesterday for the better part of the night, checking on Updates about the Georgia Senate elections and then the Congressional confirmation of the Presidential Votes at the Capitol. What transpired, and the aftermath of this on the following day, no fiction could have been more bizarre, or, as the colloquial saying goes: you can't make this shit up!

Trump summoned supporters to "wild" protest, and told them to fight. They did

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The chaos in the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday unfolded after President Donald Trump spent weeks whipping up his supporters with false allegations of fraud in the Nov. 3 election, culminating in a call to march to the building that represents U.S. democracy. ....... MORE

By now dear reader, unless you were living on the moon, you know all about this, and above I cite just one article from Reuters (also linking to related articles in the text). Scrolling through Twitter posts on the subject I found posts and comments that were beyond bizarre. On one comment I followed links and did some research, which led me to pose this question:

why is she not in a straitjacket in a rubber room?

Check this out, step by step:

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Regent University and its Board of Trustees have named U.S. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann as the new dean of the Robertson School of Government, effective January 1, 2021. Dr. M. G. "Pat" Robertson, Founder, Chancellor & CEO of Regent University, made the announcement Tuesday. ..... MORE

... and then look at this:
Former Rep. Michele Bachmann delivered an unhinged rant in which she claimed the left stole the elections in Georgia and stormed the U.S. Capitol as part of a "coup" to take over America.

The video in the tweet above is a excerpt, check out the whole rant on vimeo:

which brings me to my initial question: why is she not in a straitjacket in a rubber room?

After all this, I open my email, and find a message from Avaaz (I am a subscriber) - which directed me to this page:

Interesting days ahead until January 20th 2021 - the Inauguration. What happens until then, what will happen after? The moniker "The Excited United States" I used in my title of this blog was coined a long time ago by the Canadian journalist Allan Fotheringham (who passed away in August 2020); I would have liked to see what he would have had to say to all this, had he lived.
