An old traditional Norwegian building technique: The drywall or better knows as tørrmur

We are now located at the west cost of Norway. At Gulen, a popular travel location for both tourist and locals. This site is famous for its wonderful landscape and its viking heritage. But i am not here to study the history of vikings nor sightseeing, but rather local building techniques. The skill of building walls without cement...

The old drywall has it name, because of it purpose of making the house stay dry. The rain in west-noway never falls strait down, but rather have the tendency to fall sideways. The result of that is often that the south-wall of the house is being damage by the wind and water. In Norway its usually the south-wall which needs this protection, because of the warm and wet climate arriving therefrom.

This work was really heavy, since we did not use any machines nor cement to build this drywall. We used our own hands and off course hammers, but nothing els. I think we gained som muscle power that week! ;)
